Gabrielle Union’s Classy Clapback To Stacey Dash: “Who’s That? Was She On Roc-A-Fella?”

It looks like Gabrielle Union is taking Stacey Dash’s Oscars commentary with a grain of salt–so much so that she forgot who Fox News commentator was.

Union, who stars on a hit BET series as Dash once did, was asked for her thoughts on Dash’s integration commentary in regards to the #OscarsSoWhite conversation at the 2016 Sundance Festival. In what can only be described as a classy clapback, Union sarcastically acted as though she wasn’t familiar with Dash’s name, referring to her only as a “crazy lady.”

“Who’s that? Who’s Stacey Dash? Is she like related to Dame Dash? Was she on Roc-A-Fella? I heard of a crazy lady once, but I don’t know what her name is” she said. “If you don’t see yourself reflected in mainstream awards, you tend to create your own. Until there is no longer a need for that, I celebrate the ALMAs, the same way I celebrate the Country Music Awards, and the same way I celebrate the BET Awards and the Image Awards, which we’ll all be at in a couple of weeks. The more that we focus on inclusion and a true representation of this country, I think that crazy lady will have less to say.”

Dash ruffled feathers yet again last week when she offered her less-than-favorable solution to the controversy surrounding the lack of nominations for any actors of colors at this year’s upcoming ceremony. Stating that people of color must choose between integration and segregation, Dash took aim at BET, Black History Month and the NAACP Image Awards.

“I think it’s ludicrous. We have to make up our minds; either we want to have segregation or integration. If we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards, and the [NAACP] Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black. If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It’s a double standard […] Just like there shouldn’t be a Black History Month. We’re American, that’s it.”

But Gabrielle Union ain’t having it. Watch her response to Stacey Dash below:

Instead Of Stepping Down As Host, Chris Rock Will Address #OscarsSoWhite From The Stage

Chris Rock might not be stepping down from his Oscars hosting gig this year, but he will address the controversy.

According to a report by Entertainment Tonight, Rock’s preparations as Oscars master of ceremonies took a sharp left as actors expressed their discontent with the lack of diversity amongst the nominees. Academy Awards producer Reginald Hudlin said that Rock had his material prepared a week before things boiled over, and went back to the drawing board to create more provocative material to match the provocative times.

“Chris is hard at work. He and his writing staff locked themselves in a room,” Hudlin said. “As things got a little provocative and exciting, he said, ‘I’m throwing out the show I wrote and writing a new show.'”

The outrage surrounding the exclusion of actors of color from the Oscar nominees list garnered reactions from the likes of Lupita N’yongo, Don Cheadle, George Clooney and Will and Jada Smith, the latter of whom have openly decided to boycott this year’s show. Rock–who is known for his ballsy take on current events–already has the backing of the Academy to do what he does best, according to Hudlin.

“You should expect [#OscarsSoWhite jokes],” Hudlin told ET. “And, yes, the Academy is ready for him to do that. They’re excited about him doing that. They know that’s what we need. They know that’s what the public wants, and we deliver what the people want.”

A few have even pleaded with Rock to quit his Oscars hosting slot, including Tyrese, who urged the comedian to write a statement instead.

“Chris Rock do the right thing make a statement – were relying on you to DO the right thing…”

Looks like he’ll be doing his own version of the right thing on Feb 28.
